History AS/A2 Level at Joyce Frankland Academy

Course description

 

At AS Level students do Paper 1 which is a Breadth Study with Interpretations- this covers a period of around 100 years. Paper 2 is a Depth Study covering a shorter period of time.

At A2 students answer questions on Paper 1 and Paper 2, along with Paper 3 which is Themes in breadth with aspects in depth. Paper 4 consists of coursework.

Course content

The 2015 A Level is a new course and precise content is subject to confirmation.

Current content covered within the department consists of Henry VIII and Germany 1918-91 at AS Level and USA: Boom Bust and Recovery at A2.

The coursework option tends to change year by year with recent content including Britain as a Great Power 1815-1914 and Crown, Parliament and People 1714- 1815.

Entry requirements

At least grade C at History GCSE or minimum school entrance requirements.

Assessment

AS is assessed by two external exams which contribute 60% and 40% of the AS level.

A2 is assessed by two external examinations worth 30% of the A level each, and one worth 20%.

There is also a Coursework element worth 20%.
