Course description

Aims of the course:
Media Studies is a fast-moving academic subject that also requires practical skills and covers a large amount of information across a number of areas of study. You will study aspects of sociology, psychology, economics, history, cultural studies, marketing and advertising, film studies and graphic design.

Course content:
Students will investigate the media in order to reach an understanding and basic evaluation of how meanings and responses are created. This will be achieved through the completion of two units in Year 12. During Year 13, students will complete two further units. These will demonstrate their holistic understanding of the media, and involve them in critical investigation of a theme or text and linked media production that reflect their research and investigation. They will also be required to complete a 2000-word essay, plus linked production piece.

Entry requirements

Minimum of grade B in GCSE English Language. Experience of working with graphic design programmes is greatly beneficial.
