Instructing Exercise & Fitness Apprenticeship - NVQ Diploma Level 2 (incorporating City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Increasing Participation in Sport & Active Leisure in Community Settings) at Redcar & Cleveland College
This apprenticeship covers all the elements of Instructing Exercise and Fitness.
As an apprentice, you will work as an Instructor within an Exercise and Fitness environment.
You will have the opportunity to work with our fitness team and take part in various college events. This will help you to build your confidence and experience as a Fitness Instructor, whilst enjoying the independence of work.
It will lead to a National Vocational Qualification in Exercise and Fitness at Level 2, which incorporates a theory and practical based approach to the subject.
NVQ Level 2
You will study the following units:
- Anatomy & Physiology for Exercise.
- Principles of Exercise, Fitness & Health.
- Promote Health, Safety & Welfare in Active Leisure & Recreation.
- Work with Clients to Help Them Adhere to Exercise & Physical Activity.
- Reflect on & Develop Own Practice in Providing Exercise & Physical Activity.
- Plan & Prepare Gym-based Exercise.
- Instruct & Supervise Gym-based Exercise.
To qualify for an Apprenticeship you must secure employment in the area of instructing exercise and fitness.
There are no formal qualifications needed to commence the Exercise and Fitness Framework, although a good standard of literacy and numeracy is required, this will be assessed to support your application and to establish any support needs you have.
To gain the qualification, you will need to be with an employer, which involves working in an Exercise and Fitness environment, carrying out practical activities in order to gain the relevant basic skills and knowledge needed to work in the Fitness Industry. You will attend college one day per week and attend training with your employer whilst receiving frequent visits from your assessor.
Most of our Apprentices continue to be employed at the end of the apprenticeship. There are good opportunities for self employment or perhaps progression to an Advanced Apprenticeship.
