Nail Technology level 2 Diploma at Hertford Regional College

Course description

This course will introduce you to the various aspects of Nail Technology and provide you with the necessary skills required to work in the industry.  This course is hands-on and you will be required to provide models and to work on paying clients to support you through the assessment process of the programme.

Course content

This course is designed to give students the knowledge, skills and understanding in Nail Technology. Units of study on the programme are:

  • Working in beauty related industries
  • Follow health and safety practice in the salon
  • Client care and communication
  • Promote products and services
  • Create an image based on a theme
  • Salon reception duties
  • Provide manicure, pedicure and nail art treatments
  • Provide and maintain nail enhancements
  • Provide facial skincare provide eyelash and brow treatments
  • Display stock to promote sales
  • Self-directed study and assignments will be common throughout.
  • 60 hours work placement in the nail industry.

 You will be taught in our commercial beauty salons, where you’re theoretical and practical studies will equip you to a professional standard.
 

Entry requirements

Students require a minimum of 3 GCSE’s at grade D or above.  This should include English.  Your Programme of Study may also include Functional Skills or GCSE’s in English and/or Maths.
 

Assessment

You will be assessed throughout the course.  These take the form of skills assessments where you will be observed and graded for each assessment completed and your knowledge will be tested through a series of online exams. 

Financial information

Free to those under 19 on 31st August 2016. If you are 19 or over on 31st August 2016, have been a permanent resident in the EU for the last three years, and are a fee paying new entrant you will pay £1500 tuition fee (this was the fee for 2015/16 and could be subject to change for 2016/17). However, fee paying students continuing on the same course for a second year will be charged £1500 tuition fee (this was the fee for 2015/16 and could be subject to change for 2016/17). You will be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee, materials fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable. Future opportunities

Once completing this qualification you will be able to offer the services learnt as a qualified Nail Technician or progress to Level 3 Nail Technology which will enhance your existing skills by further learning of gel, acrylic and fibreglass applications.

Additional Activities 

Trips, work placements and extra-curricular activities will include a beauty exhibition and salon work experience.

What will I need? 

You will need to purchase a nail technology kit and accompanying text book from the college.

 You will also be expected to wear the college uniform which consists of a tunic, trousers, fleece and shoes which can also be purchased from the college. The cost of the kit and uniform is £168.
