IT Level 1 at Northampton College

Course description

You will cover a broad range of IT skills. You will learn how to use a computer and various software applications, then demonstrate skills in the use of a computer using work related documents and activities. The course is taught over 1 year, full time. The pattern of attendance is 4 days a week.There is 1 core unit: - Improve Productivity Using ITYou will also study 6 specialist units from: - Set up an IT System - Optimise IT System Performance - IT Communication Fundamentals - IT Security for Users - Using the Internet - Using Email - IT User Fundamentals - Using Mobile IT DevicesPlus 4 application units: - Wordprocessing Software - Spreadsheet Software - Presentation Software - Website SoftwareYou will also study: - Personal and Social Development - Functional Skills in Numeracy, Literacy or GCSE English and Maths as appropriate

Course content

This course is suitable for you if you have little experience and wish to improve your skills and confidence, or if you wish to develop skills and understanding of working with IT at a higher level.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at Grade E or above or successful completion of a Foundation Programme. You must be aged 16-18 at the start of the course.

Assessment

All units are assessed with course work.

Future opportunities

If you achieve all elements of this qualification you may be able to progress to the Level 2 Diploma in IT (Software Development or System Development). Or other Level 2 courses. For other Level 2 courses please visit www.northamptoncollege.ac.uk

There will be a trip arranged during your course and we recommend that all students participate. The approximate cost will be £25 and this amount is payable at enrolment.
