Engineering BTEC Subsidiary Diploma at Barnet and Southgate College
This course is suitable for people with five GCSEs at grade A*- C including a B grade in Maths and C in English, or a BTEC First Diploma in Engineering or Science Level 2. For people who demonstrate an interest in and aptitude for the subject is also required.
The course covers topics such as; materials, mechanical and electrical principles, mathematics, Computer Aided Design (CAD), electronics, engineering science and fluid Mechanics. You will also have the opportunity to study AS/A level Mathematics or Core Mathematics and the Extended Project qualification alongside this course.
Five GCSEs at grade A*- C including a B grade in maths and C in English, or a BTEC First Diploma in Engineering Level 2. A minimum Level 2 Literacy qualification, and a minimum Level 2 Numeracy qualification (we will assess this). A satisfactory interview demonstrating an interest in and aptitude for the subject
You will be assessed through a combination of practical task completed in laboratories, reports, presentations and coursework assignments. This qualification will appeal to students who prefer portfolio based assessment covering a variety of engineering investigations.
Whilst every attempt is made to keep the costs to the candidate to a minimum, the college reserves the right to charge candidates amounts over and above published fees in response to any additional charges from the awarding body. You will need to purchase the department uniform and course books. You will also need to pay for some trips and visits
This is the first half of a three A-Level equivalent programme which will provide you with a qualification to progress onto the Extended Diploma, an engineering degree, or a Higher National Diploma at college or at university. Others may choose to move direct into employment in the engineering sector in fields such as: Chemical, Defence, Electrical, Marine or Mechanical Engineering. Studying Core Maths and the Extended Project qualification provides the added stretch for progression to these exciting disciplines.
