Art and Design A Level at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School

Course description

The A level course in Art and Design is an AS/A2 course of specialised study. The expression of ideas in visual terms is fully explored through the development of skills and techniques in all aspects of art, craft and design. These include 3D, printing, photography, collage, textiles, drawing, painting, graphics, mixed media, computer graphics (Adobe Photoshop) and Flash animation. The emphasis is on personal preference and experimentation.

The art department at BRGS has a motivational, energetic and friendly atmosphere where individual development and progress is promoted and achieved through interesting and challenging briefs. Visits to exhibitions are arranged throughout the two years in order that students can develop a wider and more balanced view of the total subject area. Artists are brought in to show and discuss their work and engage with students as part of a residency. This course provides a strong vocational foundation for future study. Students have progressed their art either by direct entry to university or by obtaining a place on a foundation course prior to degree studies in Art, Architecture, Animation, Game Design, Mechanical Engineering, Archaeology with Illustration, Automotive Design and Art History.
