The course consist of 4 units - 2 are externally assessed and is 58% of the final result .
Mandatory content (83%). External assessment (58%).
Unit 1 Human Life Span Development-Mandatory-Written exam externally assessed
Unit 2 Working in Health and Social Care- Mandatory- externally assessed
Unit 5 Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs- Mandatory
Unit 14 Physiological Disorders and their Care- optional
4 GCSEs Grade 4 or above including maths grade 4 or english grade 5
The mandatory externally assessed units are the written examinations for this subject. All other units are assessed as coursework. Student must pass the written examinations and these with the coursework will make up 100% of the final grade.
Equipment required / Approx Cost:
The students are encouraged to buy the textbook Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care Book 1
edited by Beryl Stretch and Mary Whitehouse. The cost of this book is approximately £25.
Book 2 is required for the Diploma course
Higher Education Progression and Career Opportunities:
This course enables students to progress directly into the workplace, or on to further vocational programmes or to higher education. This course is a suitable starting point for careers in health services, social work, teaching and childcare, nursing and professions allied to medicine.
It is possible for students to progress further into higher education, as successful BTEC National qualifications give points on UCAS for university applications.
