Spanish is the study of the Spanish language, the Hispanic world and Spanish culture comprising of current events, literature, cinema and Spanish history.
By choosing this course you will develop your communication and presentation skills, expand your understanding of current world events, and gain a more developed understanding of different cultures and beliefs. In addition, you will take part in debates as well as learn how to analyse literature and cinema. Finally, your mastering of grammar and linguistics will allow you to gain a much more comprehensive understanding of your own language.
GCSE Grade 6 in Spanish and GCSE Grade 5 in English. A keen interest in Hispanic culture and history is desirable as well as independent learning and research skills.
A total of 3 examinations:
Paper 1: Listening, reading and translation into English (2hrs) (40%)
Paper 2: Written response to works and translation into French (2hr40) (30%)
Paper 3: Speaking (21-23 minutes (including 5 minutes preparation time)) (30%)
Students can continue their studies at University in a Spanish related degree course. There are many universities which allow you to combine your Spanish studies with another subject.
Possible careers include: Journalism and media, teaching, tourism, marketing and advertising, interpreter, translator and various sectors of global corporations.
