Design and Technology: Product Design A level at St Peter's RC High School & Sixth Form Centre

Course description

The course will provide students with materials knowledge through theory and practical application. It will develop design skills resulting in making products fit for commercial production.

Entry requirements

The general requirement to enter St Peter's Sixth Form to study 3 A levels, is 5 GCSEs at grade C / level 4 or above including English and Mathematics. Equivalent qualifications will be taken into account.

Required for this course:

A*-C at GCSE in a Design Technology specialism or Art


The course consists of:


Paper 1: core technical principles and core designing and making principles

2 hour exam - 25 % of A-level


Paper 2: specialist knowledge, technical and designing and making principles

2 hour exam – 25% of A-level


NEA (Non Exam Assessment): practical application of technical principles, designing and making principles and specialist knowledge.

45 hours – substantial design and make task – 50% A-level

Product Design will open up a wide range of opportunities for those wishing to pursue a career in the industry. These fields can vary from Architecture, Engineering, Product / Interior/ Graphic Design and many, many more.
