Course description

Do you want a job where you'll be working with your hands, building things from scratch and creating brand new parts and tools for certain tasks? If you have an eye for detail and can work to complex drawings the you may have a future in Engineer Tool Making. This Apprenticeship gives an complete intorduction and specialist training for those who wish to be a professional Tool Maker. A toolmaker creates parts, tools, and dies for use in manufacturing plants. They typically work in a specialized factory using a number of different hand tools and large robotic equipment to produce new parts and machines. As an Apprentice, you'll be earning while you learn. As well as undertaking training at City College to build your knowledge and qualifications, you'll be earning a wage while you work and gain the skills required to make a career in the Engineering industry. 

Course content

The Advanced Apprenticeship Framework will include:

  • NVQ Level 1 in Performing Engineering Operations, Level 2 in Engineering Production
  • Functional Skills for maths, English and ICT level 1 - completed at College
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) - completed at work alongside the NVQ2
  • Employement Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) - completed at work and at College.

Entry requirements

Acceptance on this Apprenticeship will be through completion of an Intermediate Apprenticeship and a recommendation from the College.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous, both on and off the job.

Future opportunities

Successful completion will greatly enhance job opportunities in the Engineering sector. You could also progress onto a range of Engineering courses at the College should you wish to further your studies.
