Histroy A Level at The John Bentley School

Course description

Course content

History always considered an attractive, academic qualification, providing a range of skills which are easily transferable to the world of industry. The department focuses throughout sixth form on developing high order skills such as independent analysis of events and representations; putting forward ideas and arguments in a clear and balanced manner and drawing reasoned and reasonable conclusions. We all feel that History matters in today’s society because "...without knowing the past we cannot fully understand the present or hope to influence the form the future might take.

"History is information, but it is also inspiration: it teaches lessons, offers warnings, provides examples, points directions and - perhaps most importantly - it humanises." (Dan Cruikshank). Studying History A Level enables students to become well-informed and confident members of the twenty first century’s global community.

Entry requirements
