Hairdressing Studies Diploma Level 2 at St Helens College
Working in our salon, The Lounge, and using industry standard equipment, you will be developing all the skills you need to forge a successful career as a hairdresser.
This course includes how to conduct a consultation, cut, colour and perm hair.
During this course, you will cover the following units:
- The art of dressing hair
- Client consultation for hair services
- Health and safety practice in the salon
- Cutting women's hair
- Colouring and lightening hair
- Shampooing and conditioning the hair and scalp
- The art of colouring hair
- Working in the hair industry
You should have four GCSEs at grade D or above, including English and maths.
English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career. But don't worry, if you haven't got the desired grades, we will still have a course available for you.
You will be assessed throughout the course and are required to complete your assessments on a commercial client (paying customer). At the start of your course, you will practice the skills on friends and family members, following this, you will be required to bring clients in for your assessments. You will build a portfolio of evidence which will be submitted for verification.
Attendance is compulsory on this course as all of the units are carried out within the first term. Attending all units will help you to achieve in your exams.
f you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2016), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation.
Students who complete this course are eligible to become a graduate State Registered Hairdresser (SRH) with The Hairdressing Council.

- Product manufacturing and training

- HM Prison Service
Students will also have the opportunity to develop their skills further by undertaking more advanced qualifications at level 3, including:
- Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing (QCF)
- Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing (QCF)
As part of this programme you are required to wear a uniform (tunic), which will be worn with black trousers or a skirt and a full black shoe. There is also a kit required to complete your assessments which can be purchased from a recommended supplier. You may be eligible for a bursary to cover these costs.
