Business CTEC Double Award at Ponteland Community High School

Course description


Students who: 

prefer a practical, work - related course

prefer to learn by completing business projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities 

enjoy focussing on particular subject areas and develop a range of specialist skills and knowledge

are interested in Business 

are well organised 

prefer coursework and are able to stick to deadlines 

are independent learners

Course content

Over the two years students will complete a total of 11 units (core and specialist):

The core units are: 

Unit 1 - The Business Environment 

Unit 2 – Working in Business 

Unit 3 – Business Decisions 

Unit 4 – Customers and Communication

Specialist units will be chosen from an exciting range spanning marketing, human resources, project/event management, finance, enterprise and interna tional business. Qualification is part of the 2016 reformed Technical Level post 16 qualifications and will lead to one of the following technical pathways being achieved: accounting, marketing, human resources and business planning.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades A* - C


Coursework (67%) Eight of the eleven units are internally assessed and graded by teachers then verified by the exam board. Grades awarded are Distinction , Merit or Pass. Exam (33%) Units 1, 2 and 3 are examined.

Further information

Edexcel BTEC offer an equivalent course to this which we may offer instead of the CTEC. We are currently comparing CTEC and BTEC options. Should we decide to offer BTEC we will write to you to inform you of this decision. Any differences between the courses will be minimal.
