History A level at East Norfolk Sixth Form College

Course description

History is a very rewarding subject to study because it tries to interpret and explain the events, issues and major personalities that have helped to shape the world we live in.

The options in the first year are linked by the themes of nationalism and dictatorship and their links with democracy.

In studying Germany (Paper 1) and either Italy or Spain (Paper 2), a similar pattern of political change occurred that saw unstable democracies replaced by nationalist dictatorships, with significant impacts on the wider history of Europe, before returning to democratic forms of government.

The course will help develop the skills and qualities required for further education or employment. It will help you develop the ability to evaluate and analyse evidence. To formulate clear and precise arguments that are well-communicated and well-supported so you should never lose an argument again!
