ICT A Level at St Joseph's Catholic Academy

Course description

ICT engages the logical and creative parts of your personality. At a technical level, you’ll need to know how information actually gets from wherever it is stored (like a company server) to where it is needed (like a sales person’s mobile phone). But there’s a creative side too. Which, in this case, is how will that information be presented on a tiny phone screen?

Among the many benefits, this course is designed to encourage you to: work co-operatively and manage projects; develop personal learning and thinking skills; provide quality ICT-based solutions to a range of problems; develop an awareness of developments in technology

Course content

In the first year you’ll study two units. These are ‘Practical problem solving’ and ‘Living in the digital world’. Lessons will be a combination of theory and practical tasks to provide understanding for the theoretical papers as well as to encourage the development of advanced practical IT skills.

In the second year you’ll study a further two units. These are ‘The use of ICT in the digital world’ and a project based unit covering ‘Practical issues’ involving the development of an IT based system.
