Creative Digital Media Production - BTEC Foundation / Extended Diploma - Level 3 at Dudley College

Course description

The course explores various creative digital media disciplines including film, television, radio, advertising, photography, publishing and print. You are encouraged to think and work creatively on a variety of projects, with the potential to work on live challenging briefs, which will equip you with the skills needed to succeed in this dynamic industry. You will be working in a professional environment using industry standard software including the latest equipment, software and Apple Mac computers.

Some of the subjects within the course may include:

Single camera and editing techniques

  • Video production
  • Advertisement production
  • Radio production
  • Producing print-based media
  • Digital graphics
  • Writing and editing copy
  • Photography and photographic practice.

Educational visits will also form an integral part of the curriculum.

Entry requirements

3 GCSEs at grade C and a grade 4 in English OR BTEC Level 2 in Media. You will also be asked to attend an interview.
To study the A level in addition to your extended diploma you will also need:
Grade 6 in English
Grade 4 in Mathematics

Assessment

You will be assessed through coursework for both practical and theoretical elements and in the form of two short, paper-based exams. This will assist you as you progress either into higher levels of vocational learning or to related academic qualifications, by providing independent assessment evidence of learning alongside a practical portfolio-based assessment.

There is no need to worry about the costs of coming to college as there is lots of financial help available. Our finance and welfare officers will be able to talk to you about any help that may be available to you based on your individual circumstances.

Bursary fund

 

Students aged 16-18 attending a full-time further education course can apply to the 16-18 Bursary Fund for help with college related costs. Free BUS PASS

 

We will provide a free bus pass to help with travel costs for 16-18* year olds on full-time programmes, based on individual circumstances**. To qualify for a free bus pass***, you must live more than one mile from the campus at which you will be studying and not already be in receipt of other financial support, such as Care to Learn funding.

 

*Under 19 as at 31 August 2017.

 

**Students with learning difficulties or disabilities who are unable to access public transport may still be able to receive help – talk to our Student Finance team.

 

***Evidence of family income will need to be provided.
