Children’s Play, Learning & Development BTEC Level 2 First Certificate at Lakes College West Cumbria

Course description

This course is for those who would like to develop their knowledge of caring for children and work towards a qualification that will help them gain employment in the childcare sector. This course will cover working with babies and young children, up to the age of eight years of age under supervision. You will learn about safe, healthy and nurturing environments for children, supporting children with additional needs as well as supporting children and families. You will also be expected to complete a work placement as part of their qualification (subject to a criminal background check). Maths and English will be at the core of your study programme. Entry requirements

Minimum GCSE Grade C/D in Maths/English, also GCSE Grade D in 2 other subjects. DBS Check needed. The course has a placement element and this will take place on two days a week.

Financial information

Free to all 16-18 and 19-23 year olds who do not already have a full level 2 qualification e.g 5 GCSE's grade A*-C. Also free to learners who are in receipt of JSA (Job Seekers Allowance) ESA ((Employment Support Allowance, (work related activity)) or Universal Credit (mandated). Where fees are payable you can set up a payment plan that best suits your needs

Future opportunities

Once you have successfully completed the Level 2 course with a merit profile, you could progress onto Level 3 Children’s Care Learning and Development or a Level 3 Apprenticeship.
