Science (Core) GCSE at East Norfolk Sixth Form College

Course description

This course is intended for students who have not achieved a C grade or better in any science course.

Many careers require a C+ grade pass in a science-based subject and this course gives you an opportunity to extend your science knowledge and upgrade your GCSE result.

You will need to complete this GCSE if you intend to pursue a career in teaching.

Course content

Units containing basic components of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

  • Carbon chemistry
  • Energy for the home
  • Understanding our environment
  • Chemical resources
  • Living for the future

Entry requirements

A D/E GCSE grade profile or evidence of potential.

You must have a grade D in GCSE Science. Any students with a grade E must speak with the Science Team.

Students with a grade D in GCSE Science but with grades below D in GCSE English or Maths must also see the Science Team.

Assessment

Awarding Body - OCR

  • 2 x written examinations taken in May/June 1hr 15mins and 1hr 30mins
  • 1 x controlled assessment – a practical task that involves research and collecting secondary data, planning and collecting data, followed by analysis and evaluation
