Caring for Children - Level 1 Certificate at Harrow College
The course is open to anyone wishing to enter the Health, Care and Early Years fields though it is particularly geared towards those interested in a career or further study in childcare.
Units on the course may include: Sharing Learning Experiences With Children Respecting & Valuing Children Listening & Talking with a Young Child Healthy Eating for Families
Students will also study literacy, numeracy and ICT and a workshop may be attached.
Through lectures, group work, practical demonstrations and role play. Students will be also be required to complete a short Work Placement.
GCSE grades D-E and F or pass at Entry level. Applicants will need to complete an aptitude test, initial diagnostics in English and Maths, have an interview and complete a CRB Police Check and a College declaration form. Any convictions/warnings/reprimands which prevent you from working with children or vulnerable people must be declared as they can prohibit you from successfully completing the work placement element and can be used to determine your suitability for the course. As learners will be working with vulnerable groups, it is a requirement that they are up-to-date with their vaccinations in line with the UK national immunisation schedule, and in particular that they have received two doses of the MMR vaccine. This will be verified at interview or prior to attending work placement. Working in the Health and Care field is physically demanding and requires learners to have a calm and professional approach as you will be dealing with various vulnerable client groups. You will also need to pass a fitness for practice assessment at interview/prior to enrolment to ensure you are able to complete the compulsory work experience placement on the course, this may require you to provide additional medical information to confirm your suitability.
Fees payable are shown above or in the Prospectus for Adult Learners. Details of the concessions available and who may qualify are shown on the fees page on the web site and in the Prospectus for Adult Learners. If the College cancels a course before it starts you will be given a full refund. If a course closes for any reason the fees for the remaining part of the course will be refunded. If the college receives a written notice of withdrawal from you at least three working days before a course starts you will receive a refund of the tuition fees. (If you enrol within the three days prior to the start of the course you will not be entitled to a refund). All registration and examination fees are non-refundable. Residential and materials fees will only be refunded in exceptional circumstances.
Students who successfully complete the Level 1 can progress onto the Level 2 Diploma for Progression for Health,Care and Early Years, the Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce and other level 2 programmes.

There is an additional fee of £44 for students to complete a CRB Police check. Please note that this is compulsory for students to complete. Please also note that the price of the CRB is subject to change and ensure to enquire about this prior to starting the course.
