Travel and Tourism A Level at Anthony Gell School

Course description

This A - level is for anybody that may want to work within the dynamic and vibrant travel industry and wants to develop their skills further and specialise in this field. The travel industry is the fastest growing industry in the world with more job availability in this sector than any other. There are a vast range of opportunities enabling you to work both in the UK and overseas. The course is a mixture of practical and academic work. This qualification contains units that are relevant to all sectors of the industry, whether you are entering into a career as a travel agent, resort representatives, tour operators or cabin crew, to name a few. This is a vocational A - level and one which if you work hard you will succeed in.

Course content

The AS course consists of three equally weighted assessments. Unit 1 is an examination (based on a pre - release booklet) on introducing travel and tourism. Unit 2 is a portfolio on customer service. This has previously been based on Twycross Zoo and we look at the importance of customer service and the training provided for employees. Unit 3 looks at two destinations (short haul and long haul) and the range of tourist attractions that these destinations have and the appeal of them to different tourist types. This involves a trip to the short haul destination: last year this was Milan; this year it’s Barcelona (chosen by the Year 12 students).
