Course description

The film industry across the world has expanded dramatically over the past ten years. The industry is dynamic and exciting, offering a wide range of employment and study opportunities.

This course will give you insight into the world of film production and evaluation. It will provide you with relevant knowledge and skills that will be beneficial throughout your studies.

This course offers students the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding which will prepare them for future study and employment, as well as being competent in the language of film. The analytical, critical and evaluative skills can be transferred into a number of other disciplines such as communication, theory, humanities and extended writing. The course is accredited so the points will contribute to further study opportunities.

Course content

This qualification has been developed to explore film as an art form, a communication medium and an industry. It offers students a flexible and creative approach to studying film, taking into account all of the processes from concept through to screening. This qualification encourages students to explore and appreciate a broad range of films in different languages and gives students the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding in practical productions.

  • Enables students to understand film from the perspectives of both audience and industry.
  • Gives students the tools to develop a critical and analytical appreciation of film.
  • Develops practical skills, techniques and processes to a standard that allows progression.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs with a grade B or above in English.
