History AS/A2 Level at Havelock Academy

Course description

 

 

History is changing. But just as each generation looks at the past afresh, so the way the subject is taught develops over time. Faced with new regulations, the AS and A-level qualifications have been refreshed, with a different emphasis compared to previous history courses.

 

Course content

 

 

The Tudors: England, 1485–1603 This option allows students to study in breadth issues of change, continuity, cause and consequence in this period

The Cold War, c1945–1991 This option provides the opportunity to study a period of major change in depth, focusing on key ideas, events and developments.

Unit 3 This unit allows students to develop their independent enquiry skills. It focuses on the causes, practice and effects of genocide.

 

Entry requirements

 

5 A*-C grades including English and maths and a minimum of a B grade in GCSE History.

 

Assessment

 

Component 1: Breadth Study

The study of significant historical developments over a period of around 100 years and associated interpretations

Component 2: Depth Study

The study in depth of a period of major historical change or development and associated primary evidence

Component 3: Historical Investigation

A personal study based on a topic of student's choice.
