Classical Civilisations A Level at Wallington High School for Girls

Highly suitable for enquiring minds that like to come to their own conclusions and enjoy reading. This course has clear links to History, Politics, Psychology, Drama and Literature. A high percentage of students who take this course go on to study this subject at top universities.

AS level: Module 1 Women in Greece and Rome
Module 2 Homer’s ‘Iliad

Assessment Two written examinations

A2 level: Module 3 Tragedy
Module 4 Virgil’s ‘Aeneid’

Assessment Two written examinations

Entry requirements

An B grade in either GCSE English Language or Literature.

Future opportunities

Classics complements other literary and historically based subjects. It gives an excellent preparation for university and beyond, as the analytical skills required anticipate thinking at a far higher level. More importantly, Classical Civilisations is an extremely thought-provoking discipline that explores complex ideas and themes in fascinating ways.
