Spanish - A Level (Aqa) at The Cotswold Academy

Course description

About the syllabus:

Spanish is timetabled for eight lessons a week, with grammar and topics divided between two teachers in each year. In addition we are very fortunate to be able to provide our students with a lesson each week with a native Spanish speaking language assistant.

Students need to learn vocabulary on a regular basis, produce written work regularly and be prepared to do extra listening practice at home.

Spanish students are offered a work experience trip in Madrid, where they are expected to complete a work placement, organise their own itinerary and plan all activities. This offers students the chance to experience working, travelling and living in Spain and coincides with preparation for oral exams. As such, it has proven very successful in improving students’ confidence and language ability.

Even after just a year’s study, you should be able to communicate both verbally and on paper with greater fluency and you will be able to understand both spoken and written Spanish with greater confidence. After two years’ study, these skills will be enhanced further and will prepare you for higher education.

Just a few of the benefits of studying Spanish:

• Gain a useful qualification for today’s job market

• A valuable addition to international business courses

• Opportunity to plan and spend time abroad on work experience

• Broaden your employment prospects

• Appreciate and understand a different culture and have a lot of fun too!
