Health and Social Care Certificate 2 at The Manchester College

Course description

If you have already developed a keen interest in health and social care and are eager to deepen your knowledge and develop the skills that employers are looking for, then this Level 2 Extended Certificate is the course for you. This is an exciting, practical health and social care course, designed to give you a more focused look at the industry and widen your experience of the topics that are central to this sector. You’ll begin by looking at the core values of health and social care, as well as exploring the key aspects of effective communication and the importance of equality and diversity. You’ll learn all about human lifespan development, to understand how different stages of a person’s life affect the care and support they require. A big part of the course then focuses on healthy living, and how to promote health and wellbeing amongst those people you may be working with in the future.

Entry requirements

If you’d like to enrol on this Level 2 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care, you’ll need to have at least 4 GCSEs in total, at grade D or above – including both English and Maths at grade D. Alternatively, you’ll have passed the Level 1 Health and Social Care Diploma. You’ll be assessed in two different ways for this Level 2 Health and Social Care Certificate. For the Healthy Living and Human Lifespan Development modules you’ll complete a 60-minute exam. For the remaining units, you’ll complete coursework that will include practical assessments, essays and presentations.

With the knowledge and qualification earned on this Level 2 course, you’ll have everything you need to advance onto the BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care Extended Diploma with us at The Manchester College and take your skills even further. This will provide you with the stepping stone to higher education courses that could help you go into prominent roles in the sector including social work, nursing, midwifery and much more! Or, you could even enter the working world with the Level 2 certificate, in a role as a teaching assistant, carer, or pharmacy assistant.

    • Nicholls Campus offers courses for school leavers, adults and university level students. Subject areas include business, care, IT, nursing and medical sciences. The campus is home to the Arden School of Theatre, offering professional training in the performing arts as part of The Manchester College. The campus also hosts courses in skills for life and independent living for students with learning difficulties.

      Nicholls Campus is a specialist centre for sport. It’s home to the Nicholls Community Football Centre of Excellence and the college’s Sports Academies in football, rugby and basketball.

      Ardwick is close to Manchester’s city centre and the city's universities. Nicholls Campus includes an impressive Grade II listed building with its own gardens. There’s a small park within walking distance of the campus and a green space across the road.

      The nearby Manchester Apollo is a 3,500 capacity live music venue. Sportcity and the City of Manchester Stadium are five minutes away by car. There are a post office, supermarket and other shops nearby. The campus is on a main bus route from the city centre and is close to Ardwick train station.
