A Level English Literature at Brentwood Ursuline Convent High School

Course description

You will read a wide range of poetry, prose and drama including modern texts and those written in the past. You will develop an understanding of the way writers use language to create literature as well as the social, literary and historical contexts in which texts are created. the course encourages a sensitivity towards language and literature and will benefit you in those higher education courses and careers where communication and analytical skills are vital.

AS Level (Year 12) Unit 1 explorations in Prose and Poetry. A 2 hour 15 minute examination where you will analyse unseen poetry as well as writing about poems and novels you have studied

AS 60% Unit 2 Coursework folder of different kinds of writing about two plays you have studied AS 40%

A2 Level (Year 13) Unit 3 interpretations of Prose and Poetry. A 2 hours 45 minutes examination including an analysis of unseen poetry and questions on poems and novels you have studied.

A2 60% Unit 4 Coursework folder of writing about your own choice of plays, novels and poems A2 40%

Entry requirements

You must get at least a B grade in both English Language and English Literature GCSE
