Sport BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Grace Academy Darlaston

Course description

The Football Academy runs alongside our BTEC Sport course. In addition to studying, you will receive specialist technical and tactical coaching a minimum of twice a week (approximately 6-8 hours) from qualified coaches including ex England international Andy Sinton. You will also play competitive matches on Wednesday afternoons against other colleges in local, regional and national competitions.

Course content

The course focuses on a range of aspects of football through training tailored to both individuals and the team. In addition to this, students will learn the theory behind sport and football including; Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness training and testing along with leadership, sports development and sports coaching. The course is assessed in a variety of ways that include practical assessment, report writing and presentations.

Why Study?

Football Academy students will experience a broad and detailed curriculum that specifically looks at the performance of the student through technical and tactical coaching along with gaining the understanding of the aspects that contribute to the performance of individuals in the game of football.

Students will train with UEFA A licenced coaches for 6 – 8 hours a week looking at all aspects of the game with the aim to improve, both as a player and as a team. In addition to this, opportunities for work experience will be made available for students. This will allow pupils to experience what happens in a wide range of sporting industries including the media, sports science and physiotherapy.

Entry requirements

The requirements for this course are 5 GCSEs including English and Maths (preferably to a grade C level) including a GCSE in Physical Education or a related subject, Please note that applicants will be considered without these qualifications, subject to a football trial and interview.

Future opportunities

If some Football Academy students show the potential and development within the game throughout the course, then opportunities can arise to continue their football development at a range of levels including recreational, semi-professional and in some cases professional football.

In addition to this, many students go on to higher education and choose a specific subject area within sport including Sport Studies, Sport and Exercise Science, Physical Education and Sports Coaching with the aim to follow a career in their chosen specialist subject. However, others have also gained employment within coaching companies, health and fitness clubs and leisure centres to name a few.
