Course description

The Construction industry is an exciting and dynamic sector which is constantly changing and developing. The Construction Industry is continually looking for a range of skilled and professional people. This course concentrates on the professional and technical aspects of Construction and the Built Environment, developing the skills, knowledge and understanding required to study and work within this varied industry.

Course content

Mathematics in Construction and the Built Environment(M) Sustainability,(M) Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction and the Built Environment(M) Science and Materials in Construction and the Built Environment(M) Economics, Finance, Quantity Surveying Technology, Materials, Structure and Science Project Management, Construction Processes and Procedures. Design, Planning and Regulations Construction and Design Drawing Techniques and CAD

Entry requirements

To gain entry to this course you will need to possess a Level 2 qualification, and/or 2 GCSE’s at C or above, including Maths, English Language and 3 GCSE’s at Grade D or above, to include a Science, or other equivalent qualifications acceptable to Middlesbrough College. You will need to have a successful interview and provide a satisfactory reference. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."

Assessment

The course is continually assessed through projects, assignments, practical activities, coursework and presentations. Two externally marked exams will need to be taken January and May (TBC)

On successful completion of this course progression routes could include the HNC Construction and the Built Environment and other higher education courses which can lead to employment in the following areas - Architecture, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering with Disaster Management, Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying and Project Management.
