Start Engineering at Burnley College

Course description

The course is designed to introduce students to the core principles behind mechanical and electrical/electronic engineering. Units include: An Introduction to Resistant Materials, Introduction to Electronics, Working in an Engineering Environment and Working as Part of a Group.

Our lecturers have excellent links with industry professionals and engineering companies in the North West, allowing you to gain essential contacts which will serve you well in the years to come.

All of our lecturers and trainer-assessors have years of industry experience and have professional backgrounds in many aspects of Engineering including CAD/Design, CNC machining and Welding and Fabrication.

Our industry standard machinery and equipment includes:

• Lloyds Tensile Training Machine
• Autoclave
• Rapid Prototyping Machine/3D Printer
• Fully equipped electronic workshops
• MasterCAM and Cambridge Engineering Software
• Autodesk inventor

Entry requirements

No formal qualifications are required, athough all applicants will be interviewed and assessed to ensure that this is the appropriate course for their needs.

Assessment

Assessment is via coursework.

Future opportunities

The BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Engineering or a Level 1 Diploma in a different subject following interview.
