ICT BTEC Level 2 Subsidiary Diploma at NewVIc

Course description

This course concentrates on developing the individual to use advanced IT that has become part of everyday life in the commercial world. You will develop your knowledge of IT, and enhance your skills ready for further study or employment.

Course content

The course will focus on:

  • multimedia technology as a tool for success
  • application development
  • e-commerce
  • video editing

On the course you will:

  • learn how different businesses use technology
  • develop concepts into real software
  • create multimedia apps
  • take part in a work experience placement

Entry requirements

Successful completion of a broad GCSE or equivalent programme, including a 9-4 grade in English Language or Mathematics and A*-D in another relevant subject, plus a good school reference.

Assessment

You will be assessed internally by coursework and two externally-assessed online exams.

Future opportunities

Successful students can move on to an advanced IT programme, for example the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in IT. This can lead to university or technology-related employment such as IT Networking, Management Information Systems or as a Desktop Technician.

Further information

Students on a Level 2 Subsidiary Diploma will also be studying towards Maths and/or English Level 2 qualifications if they have a grade 4 or below at GCSE. Students with grade 5 and above in both Maths and English will undertake the Higher Project Qualification alongside their vocational qualification.

    • Newham Sixth Form College (NewVIc) is London's largest sixth form college, offering full-time courses for 16 to 19-year-olds. NewVIc offers over 50 A Level subjects, 31 level 2 and 3 vocational programmes, as well as foundation, entry level and ESOL programmes.

      It is a diverse and friendly learning community, with an outstanding record of achievement. In 2013, 767 students progressed to university (91% of all applicants); 130 students gained places at the most selective universities, including 60 at Russell Group universities.
