Product Design with Resistant Material Technology - A-Level at The Ridgeway School and Sixth Form College

Course description

What will I be studying?

Design is the term we use to describe both the process and the result of giving tangible form to human ideas. Design doesn’t just contribute to the quality of life; design, in many ways, now constitutes the quality of life. - Peter Lawrence, Founder, Corporate Design Foundation.

Throughout the course you will be studying a variety of subjects ranging from Product Analysis, Material properties, Marketing strategies and Moral implications. Each subject is taught through a range of smaller projects which allow the student to practice and perfect their creative design. The specialism materials that will be the focus of the course are plastics, wood and metal and throughout the course the students will become proficient in all.

AS Level Product Design is evaluated through a practical innovation exam (20%) and a re-design portfolio (30%).

The A Level continuation is graded through a written exam (20%) and a Design, Make and Market portfolio.
