Performing Arts (Music, Production, Dance or Drama Pathways Available) - OCR Cambridge Technical Level 2 Diploma at East Durham College
The OCR Level 2 programme gives a rounded approach, not just to performing or production arts but to the industry as a whole. You will gain experience in music, production arts, dance or drama, where you will learn techniques as well as create your own performances. You will also have the chance to work in design for costume, set, sound and lighting.
The programme is 'learner responsive' which means we build projects around the learners who have chosen this programme of study. You will be given guidance over the development of a project which helps you develop independence. You will also participate in annual events such as the pantomime and Zombie Apocalypse.
3 GCSEs with grades D or above (including Maths and English)
The work you complete is graded as 'Pass' / Merit / Distinction' and you will have two opportunities to submit work for assessment for each unit. The course is assessed internally by an Assessor, before being Internally and Externally Verified to check the marking is consistent. Assessment includes live performance, written submissions, viva voce (interview to camera), photographic evidence, sound track or music CD.
If you have been a UK resident for the past 3 years and are under the age of 19 on the 31st August, you will not usually need to pay any course fees.
Progression after this programme could be to an OCR Cambridge Technicals Level 3 Introductory Diploma in Music, Production or Performing Arts. You will have exposure to a range of practical activities through workshops, rehearsals, performances and work experience to develop practical skills and theoretical portfolios to prepare you for the next level of study. You will have the opportunity to follow a music, production, dance or drama pathway or choose a combination in preparation for progression to a Level 3 programme.
Students can progress on to an OCR Level 3 Introductory Diploma. The OCR Level 2 Diploma provides a stepping stone into employment within the performing arts, music or production arts industries.
