Course description

Who is the course for?

Students with an interest in Performing Arts/ Dance/ PE and those who wish to study the subject alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in Performing Arts.

Course content

How will I learn?

Practical and theory sessions, rehearsals and performances. Researching and watching professional practitioners work. Students develop and choreograph their own dances and have the opportunity to perform them at high profile events. Performing Arts students also have the opportunity to attend professional shows and performances as part of their studies.

Course Outline:

Unit 1: Investigating Practitioners Work (portfolio – externally assessed)

Unit 2: Developing Skills and Techniques for Performance (workshops, rehearsals and performances – internally assessed)

Unit 3: Group Performance Workshop (developing a performance piece and performing the same in a controlled assessment environment – externally assessed)

Unit 4: Jazz Dance Technique (workshop, develop and perform two differing styles of Jazz dance – internally assessed)

Entry requirements

Level 2 Btec Dance or a strong interest in Dance.

Future opportunities

For those who wish to develop their confidence and skills in Performing Arts or those wishing to go into Education, Youth work, Public and Health Services. Many students who have studied this course have successfully gone on to be professional performers as well as teachers, teaching assistants, occupational therapists, youth workers and healthcare workers.
