Dance AS & A Level at Sir John Deane's College
Develop the art of performance and choreography in our stunning dance studio and dedicated theatre complex. This vibrant and creative subject comes to life as you perfect your skills and are inspired by professional dance companies.
Your time will be split between developing contemporary dance techniques, choreography and performance skills in the dance studio and exploring a broad range of professional repertoire in theory sessions, deepening your practical and theoretical understanding of contemporary dance.
You will focus on developing your skills as a choreographer to create a solo performance piece. You will also have the chance to demonstrate your sensitivity to other dancers through a performance in a duo or trio.
In the second year you will explore the theory behind professional works whilst learning their professional repertoire in practical sessions. You will also be developing group choreography and performance pieces.
Dance students have the chance to perform at various choreography platforms and Dance shows at the Sir John Deane’s theatre and at venues across Cheshire. Dance students take part in college productions which have recently included A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Guys and Dolls.
You will have the chance to enjoy workshops held by visiting professionals and opportunities to join the audience at live dance performances in professional venues such as Home and The Lowry.
Dance allows students to study a subject which can be extended through Higher Education and promotes a healthy lifestyle. You will gain many skills beneficial for employment and career opportunities. It is a particularly good subject to take if you are considering a career where communication, confidence and creative skills are essential.
