Course content

Unit Title Compulsory AS AS Unit 1 Effective Caring AS Unit 2 Effective Communication AS Unit 3 Health, Illness and DiseaseAS Units: Unit 1—Effective Caring this includes: Life Quality Factors, treating people well, caring skills and techniques, access to services, rights and responsibilities of service users, risks and safe working. This unit has external assessment. Unit 2—Effective Communication Types of Communication, difficulties & Strategies to overcome these, barriers to communication, factors affecting the effectiveness of communication skills. This unit has portfolio assessment. Unit 3—Health, Illness and Disease Concepts of Health and Ill-Health, factors affecting Health and Well-Being, immunisation against disease, the value of screening. This unit has portfolio assessment.

Entry requirements

Advanced courses usually require a grade C or above in the subjects you wish to study. (Mathematics and Modern Foreign Languages may require a grade B).

Assessment

Up to two-thirds of the course will be assessed through assignments that are set and marked by your teacher. This is your portfolio of evidence. One third of the course will be externally assessed through unit tests.
