Course description

A broad range of units covering mechanical, electrical and electronic disciplines. Enabling a firm understanding in the key engineering fields.

Course content

Units covered over the 1 year course. The Engineered World, Investigating an Engineered Product, Engineering Information, Communications for Engineers, Health & Safety, Marking Out, Mathematics for Engineers, Materials, Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), Machining Techniques, Electronic Circuit Design & Construction, Electrical & Mechanical Science and Engineering Assembly.

Entry requirements

Four GCSE's at Grades D or above, including Maths and English. Applicants should have a keen interest in engineering and technology and are subject to interview.

The First Diploma in Engineering is suitable for those candidates who wish to obtain a professional career in the engineering industry and to go on to a Level 3.

Assessment

There is one on-line exam, one paper based exam and the rest of the assessments are by a series of assignments (course work).

Financial information

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

Future opportunities

Upon completion you can progress onto the Extended Diploma or into employment.
