Graphics A Level at Havant Sixth form College
Studying Graphics offers you the opportunity to fuse your own original imagery with typography to form design outcomes. You will learn various specialist skills and employ these as you push ideas through practical and digital explorations. You are able to specialise in a variety of graphic based applications including illustration, packaging, point of sale graphics and graphics for publication.
You will learn about the creative design process, developing practical skills in drawing, photography, typography, layout, illustration, printmaking and digital manipulation, as well as exploring a broad range of materials and techniques. You will generate an extensive portfolio reflecting your personal interests and responses to stimuli.
The entry requirements for an A level programme is five GCSEs grade 4 or above, including English Language and Mathematics.
Students accepted onto art based courses would normally have a full GCSE in Art & Design at grade 4 or above. It may be possible to start without a GCSE in Art by submission of a portfolio at interview.
This is a two year A Level with coursework and exam components.
Successful completion of a Graphics A Level can be a stepping stone to visual pathways at Higher Education or to a BTEC Pre-Degree Foundation Diploma in Art & Design (FAD).
You will be able to make use of the extensive workshop and studio facilities whilst working with teachers who are practising artists. You will be able to participate in life-drawing in Year Two, local, national and international gallery visits, artist’s workshops and public art projects. You are able to study Graphics alongside other art based courses as part of a ‘double art’ programme.
You will need a specialist ‘portfolio’ interview with a member of the Art Department if you wish to apply for a double Art & Design programme. Full support and portfolio building is given to potential Higher Education and Pre-Degree Foundation students. At the end of the course you will be able to showcase your work in a highprofile public exhibition.
