Engineering (STEM) Level 3 Apprenticeship at Lakes College West Cumbria

Course description

The Apprenticeship Academy is an advanced level programme which matches some of the brightest students across West Cumbria with top local employers. As part of our STEM Academy, students will have the opportunity to gain both practical and academic experience in college and the workplace. Students can choose which pathway they would like to follow including welding and fabrication, mechanical manufacturing, engineering maintenance and technical support. Apprentices who select this programme will have the potential to be offered higher level positions in companies where they will be expected to put their theory work into practice. Apprentices will work towards a BTEC Level 3 technical certificate which comprises 11 units, an NVQ based around their employment, as well as studying employers’ rights and responsibilities and personal learner thinking skills. In addition, students will have the opportunity to participate in team building activities and presentations with guest speakers. Applicants will need to have relevant employment within the industry. Our Business Account Managers can assist in helping you secure a position if you do not already have one. 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grades A*-C or a relevant Level 2 diploma with a merit profile, to include functional skills at Level 2. Applicants will also be expected to successfully complete an aptitude test. 

Financial information

Apprenticeships are Government funded dependent on age and circumstance

Future opportunities

Students may wish to continue on to an HNC/D in Engineering [bridging may be required] at Lakes College or seek permanent employment in the industry.
