Sociology A Level at Kemnal Technology College

Course description

Sociology is a fascinating way of trying to understand our complex and constantly
changing society.

Year 12:
Sociology of Education looks at the role of schooling, explanations of differences in social class, gender and ethnic achievement and the role subcultures play in schools.
Sociology of the Family considers changing gender roles, explanations of diverse family structures and population change.

Year 13:
Crime and deviance looks at a range of explanations for why people engage in criminal and deviant behaviour, different patterns of criminal activity and types of criminality.
The theory and methods part of the course focuses on more philosophical issues such as the nature of science and introduces students to the way in which Phenomenologists, Postmodernists and Marxists, for example, interpret the world.

Entry requirements

B in English GCSE.
