Sport (Level 2 OCR) at Kingsthorpe College

Course content

Kingsthorpe College offer this one year course for Year 12 students. The OCR National Certificate in Sports Studies is a modular alternative to traditional `A` Level studies.

Throughout the course students follow six units from a list of ten. Compulsory units are:

  • The Sporting Environment
  • Health, Safety and Prevention of Injury in Sport
  • Effective Sports Leadership
  • The Body in Action

In addition, students choose two from the following:

  • Social Issues in sport
  • Sport Skills
  • Lifestyle and Fitness
  • Outdoor Activities
  • Career planning for the Sports industry
  • Work Experience in the Sports industry

Assessment

This is run as a one year course, assessed solely by project and assignment work - there are no formal examinations.

Further information

We feel the course is perfectly suited for the more practically minded student wishing to study Sport in the sixth form. The course encourages visits, practical work and research trips and is increasingly recognised by universities as an entry method.
