What will I learn?
This course is designed for dedicated artists who wish to broaden Art History knowledge alongside developing drawing, painting and mixed media skills. The course offers the flexibility to explore and combine art disciplines in one or more areas of study for example drawing, painting, mixed-media, sculpture, ceramics, installation, printmaking, moving image (video, film and animation) and photography.
The AQA Fine Art course consists of an initial workshop programme enabling students to develop skills, knowledge and experience of diverse media, techniques, materials and processes before embarking on a personal project. A contextual studies component will be delivered alongside supporting concepts and informing practical investigations.
Students are encouraged to critically and visually analyse artist concepts.
Throughout the course you will be introduced to a range of methods, materials and working strategies and you will be encouraged to experiment, speculate, research and investigate concepts. In addition you will participate in exhibitions, location drawing trips, national and international study trips.
At least a grade B at GCSE level.
How will I be assessed?
At AS there are two components, a non-exam assessed portfolio which is worth 60% and an externally set assignment involving 10 hours of supervised time, worth 40% of the AS grade. The structure is repeated at A2 with 15 hours of supervised time in the externally set assignment.
