Hairdressing Level 1 Diploma at Lowestoft College
This course will provide you with an insight into the Hairdressing industry. There are no formal entry requirements and no previous experience is necessary; all you need is good communication skills, an interest in fashion, stamina and the determination to succeed!
This programme includes a variety of modules including:
- Health and safety in the salon (plus exam)
- Introduction to the hairdressing industry
- Working with others in a salon environment
- Presenting a professional image
- Shampooing and conditioning
- Styling women’s hair
- The art of dressing hair (plus exam)
- Colouring techniques (plus exam)
- Plaiting and twisting
- Salon reception duties
- Creating and maintaining retail displays in the salon
- Promoting products and services to clients in a salon
There are no formal entry requirements for this course but you will need an interest in the hairdressing industry, have good communication skills and attend an interview.
During the course you will receive practical and theory lessons. In practical lessons you will work through a series of projects to develop your hands-on skills. You will be expected to produce the assessment piece set by the awarding body to prove your practical skills. The theory sessions provide you with the underpinning knoweldge needed to apply your skills on site. This knowledge is tested with three written exams in the units listed above.
Upon completion of this course, you may wish to progress on to the Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing, or undertake an apprenticeship where you will be able to demonstrate the skills you have learnt and gain invaluable experience working in the industry.
