AS/A2 Level: Art Textiles at De Lisle College
Art Textiles is a creative problem solving A level which balances well with a variety of other A levels.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
At AS level the course comprises of a coursework portfolio and one controlled externally set assignment.
At A2 level the course comprises of a personal investigation and one controlled assignment.
HOW WILL I LEARN?
A very wide variety of work is produced and students are encouraged to experiment with different styles and media. The assignments undertaken provide ample opportunity for self-expression.
All students wishing to take A level Art Textiles should have gained a minimum of a grade C, with a grade B being advisable in GCSE Art.
WHAT EXAMINATIONS ARE THERE?
AS - 50% of the total A2 level mark. The coursework unit is worth 25% of the total 'A' level marks and the controlled assignment is worth 25%.
The A2 marks are allocated similarly.
Gallery trips are an integral part of the course for both AS and A2 level. There will be opportunities to visit local and national galleries. You are expected to have your own basic set of equipment.
A level Art Textiles can lead to a variety of careers and further education prospects. With a qualification in art you could go onto higher education, art foundation or work in the art industry.
You could take the AS course to complement other advanced level courses such as History, Design and Technology and Theatre Studies or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Art Textiles, which could lead onto higher education in areas of art and design, textiles, photography, architecture or more general higher education courses.
With further training, you could go into a job related to art and design such as an Architect, Interior Designer, Artist or fashion designer.
You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will encourage you to explore your own creativity and help you develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
You could take this course with other advanced level courses. Accepted at all Universities including Oxbridge.
