Health and Social Care Advanced Apprenticeship at Colchester Institute

Course description

This qualification is suitable for anyone working in a supervisory care role within a health or social care setting They will undertake a level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

The course is aimed learners who have experience in Health and Social Care and hold a level 2 (not always necessary depending on job role) Gaining this qualification would offer you the opportunity to progress into Management in your chosen setting, onto higher education or into specialist areas within the Health and Social Care sector.

Course content

Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3. Units include:

The course combines developing your practical and theoretical skills, together with experience gained in the workplace. The course covers:

  • Working in Adult Social Care
  • Communication
  • Health and Safety
  • Equality and Diversity
  • Additional Units Tailored to Vocational Requirements
  •  Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Functional Skills at Level 2 in English and Maths (if applicable)

Entry requirements

Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of health or social care. They will need to be dedicated and committed to their study and be responsible for their own learning. It will be necessary to attend an interview with the Apprenticeships team and be asked to complete basic skills assessments in English and Mathematics.  GCSE grades A-C in Maths and English desirable but must be willing to achieve Level  2 in functional skills if they do not have the grades.


The above modules will be assessed practically and through written assessments. This is a practical course where learners will provide evidence through case studies, tasks, professional discussions and Q & A’s along with observations done with your assessor.

Future opportunities

Possible progression into a Management role. Career pathways may include progression within specialist roles such as senior care worker, support or outreach worker. Higher education opportunities may include the Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care at Colchester Institute.
