Business level 3 OCR Cambridge Technical at St Peter's RC High School & Sixth Form Centre
OCR Cambridge Technicals are a broad-based qualification that provides the opportunity for students to explore the world of business in a highly practical way. By adopting an investigative approach, students develop a range of skills while discovering the problems and opportunities faced by businesses. This course is assessed through a combination of exams and controlled internal assessments, so would suit learners who prefer a mix of coursework and examination assessment techniques.
The course encourages students to develop an understanding of how business works in the real world. They discover the problems and opportunities faced by local, national and international businesses and have the opportunity to organise an enterprise activity. Emphasis is placed on realistic business contexts throughout. Students develop an understanding of how various business functions such as marketing, finance, human and physical resources work together, as part of a cohesive business.
Students are encouraged to take part in practical activities such as planning and setting up a business.
Year one of the course consists of the following units:
- Unit 1: The Business Environment (assessed by external examination).
- Unit 8: Introduction to Human Resources (internally assessed).
The year two units require a decision-making approach which encourages students to consider management decisions and their impact on business.
- Unit 2: Working In Business (assessed by external examination).
- Unit 4: Customer Service and Communication (internally assessed).
- Unit 5: Marketing Decisions and Market Research (also assessed internally).
The general requirement to enter St Peter's Sixth Form to study 3 A levels, is 5 GCSEs at grade C / level 4 or above including English and Mathematics. Equivalent qualifications will be taken into account.
Required for this course:
4 in GCSE maths & English Language.
C grade in GCSE Business / Pass at BTEC Level 2 in Business desirable.
The vocational nature of the course provides a useful introduction to the world of business for students planning to enter professions such as banking, accountancy, management services and human resources management. Students may choose to progress to degrees, the world of work or apprenticeships in related subjects.
