Exploring the Creative Arts and Media Sectors Level 1 at Carlisle College

Course description

This course is intended as an introduction to the Arts College exploring areas such as Music, Media, Performing Arts, and Art. Learners will take a variety of options in order to complete their chosen qualification. Many of the units are project led. This gives the learners the opportunity of developing skills and techniques in relation to the industry.

The course focuses on developing the basic skills for performers and artists, honing their academic ability before progressing further onto a Level 2 programme. The course is highly suitable for those leaving school that have been unable to achieve a D within their Maths or English, or for those whose practical skills require development or ultimately are unsure of the area they wish to venture into. This will be assessed during audition and interview.

We look for lively, interesting people who are enthusiastic about learning and the arts and want to develop practical skills in performing arts. You should enjoy working with others and be prepared to work hard as the course does contain theoretical study into the industry.

Assessment

Most assignments are a mixture of practical and written work. You will prepare performance showcases and productions demonstrating the skills you have acquired. You will build portfolios of work that provide evidence of your understanding for assessment. Workshops and rehearsals will also be recorded as evidence, alongside tutor observation records.

The course is continuously assessed; you will gain points for individual units on the qualification as you go.

Future opportunities

After completing the Level 1 Diploma, if successful at interview, students may progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts and Media, Music or Art.
