Applied Science - Biology at Newmarket Academy

Course description

If you have enjoyed studying biology at GCSE but dislike exams, this is an obvious choice for you. The course covers very similar information and detail to the traditional AS/A2 biology course, but is 100% coursework.

The emphasis of this course is on the vocational setting, making the topics relevant to real life. A significant part of this course is based on practical work and applications of the topics to modern society, whilst developing key skills such as numeracy, communication and ICT.

  • Scientific practical techniques

  • Physiology of human body systems
  • Physiology of human regulation and reproduction
  • Biochemical techniques
  • Genetics and genetic engineering

Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved at least a double C grade at GCSE science.
