Travel and Tourism Level 3 at Peterborough Regional College

Course description

This advanced course is ideal if you are considering a career in tourism management or senior roles in the travel industry. The course covers topics such as handling air passengers, marketing, holiday representatives and customer service. The course also has practical elements and work experience components which makes this an excellent qualification, preparing you not just for university or higher study, but also real careers in the travel and tourism sector.

Course content

You will study modules including: • Marketing • Tourist destinations • Handling air passengers • Travel and tourism residential study visit • Tour operations • Cruise operations • Conference and events management The course includes a period of work experience in a travel and tourism placement in year 1 along with an overnight residential and visit to a major UK travel and tourism organisation for training. In year 2 you will have the opportunity to plan and participate in an overseas visit.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English and maths or other level 2 qualification at Merit including a minimum of functional skills 2 in English and maths. For learners who do not have GCSE English and maths at grade C/4 there will be an alternative Travel and Tourism qualification which would be more suitable.

Assessment

Through assignment work, presentations and practical activities.

Financial information

There will be an additional cost of a short UK residential visit in year 1 and an overseas residential in year 2.

Future opportunities

You can go on to study for a HND/degree or related courses in hospitality, travel and tourism or work as a travel consultant, resort rep, member of a cabin crew, business travel consultant or hotel supervisor.
