Travel and Tourism at The Castle School

Course description

For students interested in pursuing a career in the exciting and popular area of travel and tourism this is the perfect starting point. They will develop a critical understanding of travel and tourism and the connections between its different sectors, resulting in a holistic view of the industry and an appreciation of its global and dynamic nature. The course covers a range of topics including customer service, marketing, tour operations and retailing and can open the door to a variety of roles within the travel sector, such as with airlines, hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, tourist boards and tourist attractions. It can also lead to further study of the leisure industry.

Travel and Tourism A Level has been designed to provide a broad educational basis for further education or training in travel and tourism-related occupations. Students will gain practical and technical skills relevant to the industry, will have the opportunity for an in-depth study of one or more sectors and their operation, and develop skills to deal with realistic and complex situations and problems. The majority of the work is assessed through coursework, with one written exam at AS and one at A2.

Entry requirements

5 grade A*- C at GCSE or Level 2 qualifications such as BTEC First Diplomas.
